1995 - Took introductory writing course with Joyce Carol Oates.

1999 - Graduated from Princeton University with a degree in Philosophy.

2000 - Wins the Zoetrope: All Story Fiction Prize.

2001 - edited and contributed short-story to the A Convergence of Birds: Original Fiction and Poetry Inspired by Joseph Cornell anthology.

2002 - Everything is Illuminated published by Houghton Mifflin.

2002 - Everything is Illuminated wins National Jewish Book award and Guardian First Book award.

2003 - Wins the New York Public Library's Young Lions Fiction Award.

2004 - Marries author Nicole Krauss.

2005 - Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close published.

2005 - Writes libretto for opera entitled Seven Attempted Escapes from Silence.

2007 - Included in Granta's Best of Young American Novelists 2.

2008 - Teaches writing for first time as visiting professor of fiction at Yale University.

2009 - Eating Animals published.
